ऑपरेटिंग सिस्टम क्या है – Operating System definition, classification and function- OS stands for Operating system. यह एक system software है जो की computer hardware and software resources को manage करने के साथ साथ computer programs को common service provide करता है | कोई भी machine बिना os के run नहीं हो सकती क्योकि operating system machine का most important program है जो की सभी basic और important tasks जैसे keyboard के input recognizing करना, output को display screen पर भेजना disk पर files and directories को manage करना, and सभी parts से communicate करना शामिल है | सभी general-purpose computer पर programs and applications को run and manage करने के लिए operating system होना जरुरी है |

जब computers invent हुए थे तब users के पास computer से interact करने का केवल एक tool था – command line interface जबकि आज almost हर computer or devices मे Graphical User Interface OS है जो की use and operate करने मे बहुत easy है | सभी hardware functions जैसे की input-output, memory allocation या किसी और task के लिए operating system programs and the computer hardware के लिए intermediary की तरह काम करता है | सभी electric devices जिसमे की hardware and software functions एवं programs होते है उनमे Operating systems की जरुरत पड़ती है जैसे की cellular phones, video game consoles, laptop, web servers, supercomputers, robots etc.

- Multitasking : एक से ज्यादा program concurrently run हो सकते है |
- Multithreading: एक program के different parts concurrently run हो सकते है |
- Real Time: Responds to input instantly
