What is Windows Active Directory ? 

Active Directory (AD) एक directory service है जो की Microsoft ने Windows domain network के लिए develop की है | Microsoft previewed Active Directory in 1999 एवं उसके बाद first version Windows 2000 Server addition के साथ release किया था | यह Windows Server operating systems के साथ आती है | स्टार्ट मे Active Directory centralized domain मैनेजमेंट के लिए responsible थी लेकिन Windows Server 2008 के साथ Active डायरेक्टरी, directory-based identity-related services के लिए एक common identity बन गयी | Active डायरेक्टरी, Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) versions 2 एवं 3 को, Microsoft’s version of Kerberos, and DNS को use करता है |

जिस सर्वर पर windows Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS) रन होती है वो domain कंट्रोलर कहलाता है | यह Windows domain type नेटवर्क मे सभी users एवं computers को authenticates and authorizes करता है और सभी कम्प्यूटर्स पर security policies को assign एवं enforce भी करता है| For example, जब भी कोई user Windows domain computer मे log in करता है तो Active Directory user and उसके password को अपने database मे check करता है and verify करने के बाद policies को enforce करता है |
